CHAPTER 61

Laney could barely keep her arms up. She’d lowered them as much as she dared, needing them up to at least channel her energy.

But she was so damn tired.

I’m pushing myself way too hard. Looks like Drake was right., she thought and gave a small chuckle. Oh, wouldn’t he like to hear that.

She could feel her power loosening. Already the sides of the water were starting to rush forward.

She was managing to keep the water that was directly in front of her back, but not by much. It was only about a hundred yards away. She had seconds, if that, to get out of there.

And yet, she didn’t have the energy to even run to the other side of the roof, never mind any farther than that.

“Oh, Drake, I’m so sorry,” she whispered, knowing how hard this was going to be for him.

An image of Brielle from when they’d been in Egypt floated through her mind. You’ve been holding back.

Laney wasn’t sure why that particular thought crowded into her mind at this moment. Because right now, she wasn’t holding anything back. She’d left everything out on the field, and there was no more to tap into.

Nevertheless, she straightened her shoulders and renewed her focus just a little bit longer.

Drake will be here. Swallowing, she shoved her energy back into the wind, holding it back.

A warmth began to grow inside of her chest. Laney felt it spiraling out, reaching up her chest, into her throat, and out through her arms and down through her legs. She didn’t know what on earth it was. Maybe she was about to have a stroke. It wouldn’t surprise her if her body completely overheated with the amount of energy she was expending.

If that were the case, she hoped that maybe, just maybe, a little bit of that heat would give her enough energy to push back just a little bit more.

But in the last few seconds, the wave had covered another fifty feet.

Now it was only fifty feet away from her. Drake wouldn’t get back in time.

She didn’t want him to get back in time.

Because if he did, he’d be caught up just like her. Closing her eyes, she pictured Drake’s face. She pictured Nyssa, her uncle, Cleo, and Cain. All those that she loved swam through her mind. Flinging her eyes open, she pushed all of her energy out as the wall of water crashed down over her.
